Nepal Flood Appeal 2026

The Crisis: What Happened in Nepal

In the early hours of 26 August 2026, a massive glacial collapse near the Nepal/Tibet border sent a wall of rock, ice and mud into the Bhote Koshi River, triggering flash floods that swept downstream through Rasuwa District and beyond. Villages including Syaphrubesi and Timure were among the hardest hit.

The floodwaters have:

  • Killed several hundred people, with hundreds more still unaccounted for as search and rescue operations continue
  • Affected an estimated 90,000+ people across five districts
  • Destroyed or damaged homes, health clinics, schools, roads, bridges and hydropower infrastructure
  • Cut off entire communities, making rescue and aid delivery extremely difficult
  • Contaminated water supplies, raising the risk of waterborne disease
  • Left more than 17,000 children in urgent need of humanitarian support

Damaged roads and bridges continue to hamper access to the worst-affected areas, and communication networks remain disrupted in parts of Rasuwa. Aid organizations warn that needs will keep growing as assessments reach more remote communities.
