In January 2026, a residential building collapsed in the Qobbeh district of Tripoli, northern Lebanon.

Two lives were lost. Survivors were pulled from the rubble. Families were left without homes overnight.

This tragedy is not an isolated incident. Municipal authorities have warned that over 100 buildings in Tripoli are structurally unsafe, placing thousands of people at risk of sudden displacement with little or no warning.

Lebanon’s housing crisis has become a humanitarian emergency.

What Happened

A multi-storey residential building collapsed in the early hours of the morning, trapping residents beneath concrete and debris. Emergency services worked for days to recover survivors and victims.

The families affected had no time to prepare. They lost their homes, belongings, and sense of safety in a single moment. For many in Tripoli, leaving an unsafe building is not a choice. It is a luxury they cannot afford.
